Described as Cinéma vérité or docufiction in style Dogs in Space by director Richard Lowenstein is the most important cult film to references to Melbourne's punk / youth culture in the late 1970's.
Given the films mains theme being based around Melbourne's ephemeral 'Little Band' scene that lasted from 1978-1981 becomes particularly interesting when looking at 'lost cultures or scenes'. The main characters youthful bohemianism and hedonistic lifestyle are a insight into the youth and culture of the time that could be directly referenced when related back to my work around a lost pop culture.
The below screen grabs from the opening scene of waiting to go into a Bowie concert are a particularly typical of the time (1970's) and a great aesthetic reference for clothing, styling and propping.
